Canadian Elementary School Sues Crypto Miner Over Noise Pollution
A Canadian elementary school has filed a lawsuit against a local cryptocurrency mining operation, citing unbearable noise levels that disrupt outdoor learning. Superintendent Susie Schlehuber reports a persistent 75-decibel hum—equivalent to a vacuum cleaner—emanating from the mining site since March.
The school, founded with an environmental focus, has been forced to abandon outdoor classes and shelve expansion plans due to the incessant metallic whine. Temporary noise mitigation measures, including hay bales, provided minimal relief. A two-week court-ordered pause failed to resolve the issue.
"It's 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It never stops," Schlehuber stated, noting the operation's impact on the school's pedagogical approach. The case highlights growing tensions between industrial-scale crypto mining and community welfare.
